General Information
Zhaoqing University was founded in 1970 and situated in Zhaoqing City, a famous city of the Pearl River Delta, Guangdong Province, China. It is a full-time comprehensive university for undergraduates and the sole state-run institution for higher education in Zhaoqing area.

Landscape:
Zhaoqing is a national historical and cultural city, a member of the first group of China Top Tourist Cities. The Star Lake Scenic Spot, whose main parts are the Seven Star Crags, is one of the first China’s National Key Scenic Spots. Mountain Dinghu, which is the top of the four famous mountains in Lingnan Area and China’s first Natural Reserve, is honoured as an Oasis of Tropic of Cancer by Chinese and overseas scholars.
Transportation:
Zhaoqing City boasts a superior geological location and enjoys fast and frequent transportation. It is 90 km away form Guangzhou City, the capital of Guangdong Province and 110 km away from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. Both journeys take no more than 2 hours by bus. There are convenient water, road and railway traffics, including trains and express buses to Shenzhen and Zhuhai Sepcial Economic Zone, Hong Kong and Macau Special Administrative Region.
Campuses
Zhaoqing University has two campuses. Both the Main Campus and the Star Lake Campus are in the beautiful and picturesque Star Lake Scenic Area. The University occupies 1,655 Mu land area with 400,000 sq. meter buildings. The buildings are in harmony with the hills and waters and epitomize charming Lingnan scenery. Zhaoqing University is awarded as 400 Good Units of the National Forestation, Guangdong Civilization Unit and Zhaoqing Garden-style Unit. The campuses surrounded by green hills, clear water, blue sky and white clouds are the ideal place for learning, teaching and research.
Disciplines and Students
There are 18 colleges or schools in Zhaoqing University. The disciplines cover 9 categories, including economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture and management. The University has about 15,000 full-time students who are distributed in 43 majors. The philosophy of the University is “Focusing on students, basing on qualities, concerning for knowledge and skills, stressing more on skills”. It enjoys a good reputation and fine school spirits for high teaching quality and standard management. The professors and doctors give their lectures to the undergraduate students at the teaching frontiers. Zhaoqing University encourages students to participate in the entrance examination for postgraduates and makes great progress these years. There are more than 60,000 students who have graduated from the University. The employment rate in recent years is higher than 98%, which is in the front rank of similar universities in Guangdong Province.
Teaching Resources: teachers, library and labs
Zhaoqing University owns abundant teaching resources. There are more than 700 teachers, a double-employed academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, over 80 professors, and nearly 300 associate professors. Among them, 63% have got Doctor’s or Master’s Degree. A number of renowned experts and scholars from other universities or institutions are invited as part-time or guest professors. The University Library owns 18,420 sq. meter building area and has more than 1,220,000 books, 250,000 electronic books and 1,500 kinds of newspapers and magazines. The databases, such as China Journal Net, VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database, Chinese Doctoral Master's Dissertations & Full-text Database, are available to teachers and students. The university has a total value of approximately 100,000,000 RMB teaching equipments. There are 27 labs, including 3 provincial key teaching labs, that is, the Optoelectronic Information Technology Teaching Key Lab, the Experimental Teaching Model Centre for Computer Basic Course Demonstration and the Comprehensive Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centre for Opto-mechano-electronic Integrity. Foundational Mathematics and Contemporary Chinese Literature have become the disciplines of the provincial universities with government support.
International Cooperation and Exchange: foreign experts, overseas students, collegiate co-operations
Zhaoqing University has been actively engaged in international cooperation and exchange and established friendship with overseas universities, colleges and research institutions. Since 2000, the University has invited 150 foreign experts, who come respectively from the USA, the UK, Germany, Canada, South Africa, Iceland, Belgium, and Japan. Since 1998, the University has accepted and cultivated nearly 200 overseas students. At present, the University has established collegiate co-operations with over 10 universities and colleges in the USA, the UK, Japan and Korea. Especially, Zhaoqing University and Anoka Ramsey Community College, USA, have established sister-university relationship and exchanged teachers and undergraduate students for years. Zhaoqing University and Bolton University, UK, not only exchange teachers and undergraduate students but also make common efforts to launch and finish successfully four MBA programmes, which involve about 100 students. Moreover, Zhaoqing University has achieved long-term friendly cooperation with Himeji Dokkyo University, Soka University and Nagano University, Japan, and Hiram College, Edgewood College, USA. The Research Institute of Ikeda Daisaku Research Institute has been established in Zhaoqing University for many years. By now, Zhaoqing University has sent more than 30 teachers and 20 undergraduate students to Belarus, Indonesia, US, UK and Japan.
